Confirm Email Application Online

Step-by-Step

Before working with your individual application, check your Internet connection to be sure that your device is on-line and that your email password is working by logging onto your account at http://bwa.dartmouth.edu.

Once you are sure you can connect successfully and see your new messages, go to the section below for your email application.

Outlook 2013 or 2016

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click Inbox in the Navigation column on the left side.
  3. Click the View tab in the Ribbon.
  4. Click Change View.
  5. Select how you want messages displayed.
  6. Confirm the Status Bar shows "Connected to Microsoft Exchange". If the status is "Working Offline" do the following:
    1. Click the Send/Receive tab in the Ribbon.
    2. In the "Preferences" section, click Work Offline to return to being on-line.
    3. In the Status Bar, check for the "Connected to Microsoft Exchange" status.

Outlook for Macintosh

  1. Open Outlook for MAC.
  2. In the Navigation Pane on the left side, click Inbox.
  3. Click View from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  4. Click Reading Pane and select how you want your messages displayed.
  5. Confirm the Status Bar shows a status of "Connected to <your email account name>". If the status is "Working Offline" do the following:
    1. Click Outlook in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    2. Click Working Offline to remove the check mark and return to working online.
    3. Confirm the Status Bar changes to "Connected to <your email account name>".

Apple Mail

  1. Open Apple Mail.
  2. In the Sidebar/Mailbox List column on the left, under MAILBOXES click on Inbox.
  3. In the middle column Messages list, click Sort by and choose Date and Newest Message on Top (if that is they way you want to see your messages).
  4. Click the Mailbox menu and ensure the Take All Accounts Online is grayed out.
  5. To confirm Mail is online and logged in to your mail account, click the Window menu and click Connection Doctor.
  6. The Mail Connection Doctor will show the connection status and details of the connection to the mail server.
