Can't Move Email to File Folder in Outlook 2013


Some users have reported issues with not being able to move emails to a file folder in the navigation pane after they have doing an email search in their inbox. Additionally, it looks like if you have two copies of the same message in the inbox and if you delete one of them, it deletes both of them. To resolve this:

  1. Check to make sure the Windows Search Email Indexer add-in is disabled. Do this by click File, then Options, then Add-ins. Disable the Windows Search Email Indexer COM-add-in.
  2. Next, change the search options. Do this by clicking File, then Options then Search. Choose just the 'Current Folder" under the "Include results only from.", not the one that also says "Current mailbox when searching from the inbox." Close Outlook then re-open it.
